Try Out- Morning Person

Everyone knows that early birds are more productive, right? Well, I think it's impossible for me to wake up any earlier than I need to. Realizing the importance of settling into the day (rather than rushing to find my keys and mascara, while gulping coffee), I am making an effort to wake up an hour earlier to enjoy my breakfast, ease into the day and get a few things done before heading into work.

I've read a few articles (here and here) and they all have great tips- but I feel like these are the most important ones for me to make the switch- read them under the cut.

  • Give myself a to do list- what's the point of waking up earlier if I don't have anything to do? This list could have: early morning workout, take the dogs for a walk (especially when I have things to do after work), blog, or catch up on emails.
  • Think about food- I'm easily persuaded and interested in food. If I think about the delicious bagel I could have and the fresh cup of Alterra coffee- I'll be up in no time
  • Utilize my secret weapons, Lucky and Lucy- if I ask my two dogs, "wanna go outside?" at 6am, they'll be ready to go. Best of all, they'll be so annoying about it, I'll get up just to put them outside and  stop their whining.
  • Get to bed earlier (duh)- I'll never be able to wake up earlier unless I go to bed earlier (I'm an 8 hour a night kind of girl). My new rule is to be in bed (sans laptop/iPad) by 10pm. I can catch up on magazines and books, but no technology. Reading makes me sleepy (in a good way) and then lights out no later than 11pm. (Plus, the light from your laptop can effect your vision long after you go to sleep and it keeps your brain stimulated- or so they say.)
I'll keep you posted! :) How early do you wake up?
