Happy Thanksgiving! I'm still full from all that food yesterday...but not too full for more pie for dinner tonight!

It's important to reflect on what really matters, especially in this super busy and crazy time of year. It's easy to get caught up in the shopping, the wrapping and all of the social events the season brings.

Today, I took the day to just relax (ok, and maybe some online shopping) and reflect on what's great in my life right now and feeling grateful for the roof over my head, the loved ones in my life and a healthy body. I am sure I'll need to remind myself of all the things that really matter as December picks up.

What are you most thankful for today?

Try Out- Gallery Wall

I hope everyone weathered this week's storm ok. We were lucky here in Providence (the power even stayed on!) and I was able to tackle a few projects. First on the list was a gallery wall for the space above my couch in my living room. I love how it turned out. I kept it a bit higher so I can add to it without rearranging a whole lot...and adding more holes to the wall!

My boyfriend, S and I compromised and decided to not paint the living room since it was painted right before we moved in. To bring color in, I used bright accent pillows in magenta tones, lush curtains and a chevron rug. All that was needed was a gallery wall. Here's how to curate one of your own:
  • Clean your wall- just wipe it down with a wet rag. Let it dry.
  • Arrange your shapes and take inventory. Make a list of frames you need (check thrift stores for great deals, or Ikea!) and what you already have.
  • Once you have what you want on your wall, clean all of your frames with Windex and dust them. Lay everything out on the floor and rearrange until you get the perfect gallery.
  • Make sure your materials are different- don't just have photos or Etsy prints. Mix it up with inspirational messages, ameature and professional photographs and other trinkets. The best thing about a gallery wall is adding to it- your gallery will always evolve.
  • Have at least one large piece to act as a focal point and allow your other pieces to move around it.
  • Add to it! I love browsing Etsy for cute prints (doesn't everyone?) and finding pieces at yard sales. Let your wall show off your interests and grow with your home.

What to Where- Travel Essentials

I traveled to Austin, Texas this past weekend and not only had a great trip down South for a friend's wedding, but fell in love with AUS (more on that on Saturday!).

I travel often- and my rules for style en route always include lots of layers (it's always cold on the plane!), stretchy jeans (leggings are totally fine if you're traveling overseas), and a big bag to stow away extra magazines, your iPad and gum. I always bring a mini makeup kit to touch up before landing.

Always wear your heaviest shoes on the plane, generally boots, they'll save space and weight in your suitcase!

Try Out- Morning Person

Everyone knows that early birds are more productive, right? Well, I think it's impossible for me to wake up any earlier than I need to. Realizing the importance of settling into the day (rather than rushing to find my keys and mascara, while gulping coffee), I am making an effort to wake up an hour earlier to enjoy my breakfast, ease into the day and get a few things done before heading into work.

I've read a few articles (here and here) and they all have great tips- but I feel like these are the most important ones for me to make the switch- read them under the cut.

What to Where- Fall Uniform

How is it already the middle of October?!

I know that all winter I'm going to be living in layers- particularly cuddly, graphic sweaters over peter pan collared tops. And, I've been living in my Madewell crop skinnies (great for short legs like mine) all fall long. I've also had my eye on a pair of lace up boots...perfect for staying warm and stylish.

What's in heavy rotation in your fall wardrobe?

What to Where- Labor Day BBQ

Double-trouble for this week's What to Where! Summer is sadly closing shop this weekend, and there are always fun Labor Day hurrahs to spend the last moments of summer in style.

We love the color block of this cute Modcloth Dress and these fun Chelsea Crews go with everything in a punchy melon. My J. Crew gigham shirt is quickly becoming a staple in my closet, and will transition easily into fall (eek!) with a cardi and jeans.

Happy Labor Day! Have a corn on the cob and a Summer Shandy for me.

What to Where- Late Summer Wedding

Weddings are (usually) super fun- reuniting with friends, drinking too much champagne, and getting those warm fuzzies during the ceremony that remind you that you're not a robot. What's not fun about weddings? Spending a ton of money- especially on an outfit that you wear one time.

I have half-a-dozen dresses in my closet that I've only worn once, to weddings. To insure this never happens again (except for maybe my own real wedding dress, someday), I have vowed to only buy "wedding dresses" that I can wear for many other things, including to work.

I love this bright little number from Anthro- it's poppy enough to say "FUN! Summer Wedding" but totally office appropriate when paired with a cardigan and pearls. These fun Dorothy Perkins heels have a fun gold cap-toe, and the nude color is slightly pink that brings out the warm tone of the red dress. My "must work with other outfits" rule also applies to shoes- and these little ladies definitely work with other pieces in my closet.

Tello & Rose always makes classic and versatile pieces that keep a bit of RI with you- regardless of where the wedding is. This adorable Ikat clutch holds your cell phone, keys and lipgloss; but is also tiny enough to take on the dance floor with you.

And, who doesn't love a cocktail in a vintage coupe?

Organizing your Desktop

Between notes, junk mail, fun photos and the endless "to-do" pile- it's easy for your desk to be cluttered and messy. But, how's a girl supposed to get any work done with all this mess?

  • First, clear everything off your desk. Yes, everything. Then clean it. Take out any drawers and clean them with an eco-friendly spray (we love Mrs. Meyers's Countertop Spray in lavender). Make sure to get the sides and the handles. All over!
  • Recycle, shred or file every piece of paper, receipt, rogue Post-It:
    - Junk mail- recycle it
    - Important info like credit card statements, paid bills or insurance forms- either shred or file these guys. I keep my shredder on top of my garbage can under my desk so I can shred right away!
-Sentimental items- keep a folder or box for concert stubs, playbills or first-date mementos
  • Throw all pens, scissors, and pencils into a small bucket or coffee cup for a cute, fun pencil holder. Make sure to toss any dried up pens or too little pencils.
  • Only leave other office accessories on your desk that you use daily. If you can't remember the last time you used it- stash it in a drawer dedicated to other office supplies like staplers, label makers, extra Post Its, envelopes and more.
    - Make sure to invest in a soft light that is bright enough to light up your space, but isn't blinding. I love this vintage-inspired desk lamp from IKEA.
  • Create a space that inspires you. Hang up bulletin board paper or make a chalkboard wall using Magna Magic. Write down inspirational quotes or tape up fun images from Pinterest (like these!), you want to create a place where you feel inspired, and more importantly, productive.
Once a week, go through any papers on your desk and clear the clutter! Trust me, you'll feel so much better.

What to Where- Summer Music Festival

From the Newport Folk Fest to the Life Is Good Festival- there is never a shortage of sun-and-beer-filled festivals to go to with friends in New England.

I prefer wearing a bikini as undergarments during a festival, or honestly, whenever it's super hot. It's just easier (and less gross) and then, you're then ready for an impromptu dip in the ocean.

Chambray shirts are quickly becoming a closet staple- perfect over a bikini or buttoned up once the sun sets. You can easily transition this classic button-up to fall with pencil skirts or jeans...perfect! I find myself reaching for my American Eagle shirt often.

These fun headwraps from Mercato look cute and keep the fly-aways out of your face, so you can pay attention to the music.

What are your summer music must-haves?

CL Tip- Packing for the Weekend

I am heading to Toronto this weekend to visit my best friend, who recently relocated to Canada from Boston. So excited! As I great ready for the trip; I find it almost harder to pack for a short weekend trip, rather for a longer trip home for the holidays just using my carry on.

Here are some packing tips that I've learned the hard way.
  • Wear your comfy "walking shoes" on the plane- I love TOMS because not only are they super comfortable, but they look cute with dresses, jeans and shorts. Then, bring only one pair of shoes since they take up space and are heavy in your bag that you have to cart around everywhere.

Sidenote: If you are wearing TOMS, invest in those low-cut socks. Not only will they make your shoes last longer, but then you won't step on that disgusting airport mat. Ick.

Put the extra pair of shoes at the bottom of your bag, not only will they help balance your suitcase, but they won't squish your other clothes.
  • If you feel comfortable, ask whoever you're staying with to use their toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, hair dryer, etc.- then you don't have to worry about packing mini sizes in a Ziploc and you'll save room in your bag and a headache at Security.

If you visit this person often (hi mom!), maybe even leave some of your essentials at their house. I have a mini-kit at mom's with my favorite face lotion and contact cleaner.
  • Stick to your favorites. Don't worry about wearing "what you always wear"- you can show off your classics in a new city. Bring those jeans that make you look amazing paired with that super flattering v-neck and scarf. Not only will you look adorable, but you'll feel confident, too.
  • Even if you're traveling in the middle of August, bring a heavy sweatshirt or light jacket. It may get chilly at night, and you don't want to be freezing at dinner.
  • Stick with a color palette for the trip so everything matches and performs double-duty. That fun, poppy cardigan will be perfect during site-seeing, but will also keep you cozy during al fresco cocktails.
Happy Weekending!

Guest Post- On Becoming a Morning Person

My whole life I've been a morning person, I've written once before about it here on Thought Catalog. It's something that has always come naturally to me. For some, however, trying to wake up in the morning is a daily struggle.

Some ways I use to make it easier to get up in the mornings:

  • Don't snooze. When I set my alarm for the next day I set it to the latest possible moment I have to sleep before I have to get up. Therefore, eliminating any possibility of hitting the snooze button. If I were to hit it, my whole morning routine would be thrown off and I would be late for work.
  • Location, location, location. When starting out on your journey to become a morning person I suggest keeping your alarm on the opposite side of the bedroom. I did this in high school when I found myself for the first time having to wake up at five a.m.. Because my alarm was clear across the bedroom I physically had to get up and turn the light on before reaching my alarm and turning it off. By the time I did I was already out of bed and the light was on-might as well start my day, right?
  • Wind down. At night, when you're thinking about going to bed start early in your preparations. About an hour or so before I turn off some lights, turn down the TV and get into the mind set of going to bed. Little by little I go through my routine of brushing my teeth and washing my face, finally bringing myself to my bed with a few minutes left to read before turning out the bedside lamp.
  • Get into a routine. Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time. Do this even on the weekends for at least a week and just see progress you made.
  • Start small. Don't overwhelm yourself with all you want to do with your extra morning time. Get up early just to relish in the quietness as you sip your coffee and read gossip sites. You can answer emails later and a few months from now you can start incorporating some exercise into your new morning routine as well.

Day Drinking with Ashley: Smoothie Style

Believe it or not sometimes I drink things other than wine and vodka tonics (rare, but it does happen). And although you technically drink a smoothie, these spinach infused protein bombs, though not quiet act as a meal replacer most certainly could count for a snack (or in my case as an after workout drink).

I learned about these "Green Monster" smoothies a few months ago from my older sister. She swore to me that no matter how gross it may seem that there is spinach blended up in the smoothie you would not be able to taste it. So I tried it and was surprised that I could only taste the delicious fruit. Spinach is such an awesome food to add to this smoothie because it is packed with vitamins and nutrients. I pinned  a link to the health benefits on spinach a few days ago that can be found here.

Now, while I usually stick with this basic recipe sometimes I venture out and throw berries into the mix or use a chocolate protien powder. But then the shake turns brown and is twice as unappealing.

Again, besides the one banana, the ice cubes I count out and the pre-measured protien powdered everything else going into this smoothie is eye-balled.

Ashley's Spinach Smoothie

What you'll need:
1 banana
6 ice cubes
Greek yogurt
Protein powder
Milk of your choosing
Fresh spinach

When it comes to throwing all your ingredients into your smoothie, I always start with the banana first. It blends easily and won't clog your blender like the powder would. So usually I put the banana and yogurt in first. A spoonful or two of plain Greek yogurt. I use the Greek yogurt because I find it to be the most natural (least amount of ingredients/processing) and it is another good source of protein which will keep you fuller longer. Now I'll put in one scoop of protein powder. I use Jillian Michael's whey protein because it's 1. cheap and 2. has 15 grams of protein and 3 grams of sugar. In my opinion if a protein powder has any more than three grams it's kind of a wash in the health benefit area.

Next I'll throw in six ice cubes. I just find six brings the smoothie to a nice consistency. More of a milkshake rather than a chewy, crunchy thing. After that I'll pour in my milk of choice (I choose rice milk), just enough to fill the bottom. Pour too much and your shake is too watery. Finally I throw in a handful of fresh spinach on top. I put in stems and all...it all blends the same. And I emphasize to use FRESH spinach. Frozen spinach will get stringy and you'll end up chewing your smoothie and sucking up long strands of spinach up the straw (I've also tried kale in the past but that was too crunchy).

Blend.

Voilà.

Tipicamente this will make about 16 ounces of drank.  Enjoy my loves.

CL Tip- Guest Room Rules

One of my weekend projects that seems to never end is clearing out my guest room (aka, going through boxes and realizing if it has been in there for a year, I probably don't need it). I want to make sure the spare room is not only welcoming, but comfortable and cozy, too.

Cozying-up your own guest room?

  • Make sure you have an additional lighting next to the bed- there's nothing worse than getting cozy under the sheets with a book and having to get up to turn off the light!
  • Provide cozy, fresh bedding with lots of layers. Also, causally leave a throw at the end of the bed- this will provide extra warmth, if needed, and is inviting for an afternoon cat nap.
  • Don't leave your junk everywhere. You want to your guest room to feel like a bedroom, not a storage room that just happens to have a bed in it. Either store your stuff under the bed or in the closet (but leave room for guests to hang clothes!) or find somewhere else for it.
  • Be sure to stock your guest room with towels before they arrive. Leave out a few fresh bath towels and facecloths for your guests, depending how long they're staying.
  • Want to make it even more cozy? Fill a cute basket with mini shampoo and conditioner, lotion, mouthwash and other bathroom goodies. It's a great way to use up those little hotel toiletries!
  • Leave out fun magazines and books- especially local reads that may be interesting to out-of-towners and provide fun ideas of what to do while they're here. Maybe they'll even bring that Rhode Island Monthly back as a souvenir.

Day Drinking with Ashley: Summer Cocktails

I love a good drink. Plain and simple. Wine, beer, liquor...I don't discriminate when it comes to mixology. After bartending my way through college, I picked up a thing or two and made up a few of my own along the way.

As a fair warning: I don't measure.

Now nothing defines summertime like sipping on a cold beverage while lounging outside in the sun. And because those specialty drinks at your favorite watering hole can add up quicker than you can sip, here are a couple of my favorite summer drinks to keep your thirst quenched and wallet full.

Lemon Sangria

What you'll need:
-White wine (I use Chardonnay because I feel the lemonade brings the sweetness to the drink and that using a Riesling or Moscato would be too much)
-Vodka
-Lemonade
-Fruit
And then I mixed it. Vodka goes in first...as much as you can handle. This is the strongest part of the drink but keep in mind that in a true sangria you cannot taste the alcohol. I pour no more than two fingers high. Then the wine goes in. About half to a little less, again all depending on your preference. Fill the rest up with lemonade and keep your drink chilled with some ice cubes. To make it pretty and for a nice treat after the drink is finished I cut up some strawberries, cantaloupe and throw blueberries into the mix and let that soak as I sip.

Coronarita on the Rocks

What you'll need:
-Tequila (gold)
-Cornoa (7oz for individual coronaritas...full sized bottle(s) for a  batch)
-White soda
-Margarita mix

For a great Coronarita I suggest first freezing your glass for a couple of hours. A beer pint will work find or one of those big, thick fishbowl margarita glasses you find in restaurants. I do not recommend freezing thin glasses as they will become much more prone to cracking during the unthawing process.

For the individual Coronarita:
If you're a salt-on-the-rim kind of person (and I am) this is when you salt the rim. To save yourself some time take the lime you're going to throw in the drink at the end and run it around the edge of your glass and then dip the glass in kosher salt. Easy cheesy. Fill the glass with ice and put in your tequila...as much as you'd like really depending on how strong you like your margaritas. For any mixed tequila drink I would go with a gold tequila but it truly is a pick-your-poison type of deal. Next pour in some margarita mix and white soda, combining the two until the glass is almost full. Uncap your beer, turn it over and put it in your drink. With no place to go, the beer will begin to distribute evenly as you begin to drink. Take the lime from earlier, squeeze some juice on top and plop it in. You're good to go.

Now if you prefer blended margaritas, go ahead and mix equal parts over ice and blend until frothy.

What I love about these two drinks, not only do they both capture the essence of summer in completely different ways but they are both very customizable to any drinker. No matter if you like a strong cocktail or if you need just a hint of something extra at the dinner table at your in-laws it will work either way.

While a good sangria will be mixed well enough to mask the taste of the vodka and wine the Coronarita's flavours are all very potent and you will be able to taste each ingredient as you indulge under the sun.

As always, drink responsibly.

Salud!

Style with Marie-Louise: Mega Print Dresses

We often forget but fashion is an art form. This seasons mega print dresses are just like digital prints and still life paintings that we can wear. Designers like Dolce & Gabbana and Prada have been producing dresses that are a work of art with elaborate images printed on the fabrics. Just like the neon trend can brighten anyone’s day, these mega print dresses can do just the same. Since these dresses are
such a statement, its great to pair them with neutrals to keep the focus on the piece you’re wearing. Isabel Marant and Elizabeth and James have beautiful yet simplistic wedges that are as cute as they are comfortable.

Are you ready for the Lime Seeds Summer 2012 Reading Challenge? We're all teaming up to read 10 books between now and Labor Day.

Best of all, I'm tracking it all here on the blog and on Good Reads. You can friend me here, and be sure to let us know if you're on Good Reads, too! It's a fun way to organize what you're reading, share reviews and get recommendations from your friends.

What's on your reading list? A girly beach read? A LOL book like Bossypants or Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? Maybe something classic like The Catcher in the Rye?

I am aiming to read at least two classics (including a re-read of The Great Gatsby) for the challenge, followed by something funny (maybe Rachel Dratch's Girl Walks Into A Bar for the beach!).

Be sure to comment or tweet us @clementinelime if you're joining the challenge, add the badge to your blog and update us on your progress!

Style with Marie-Louise : Make the Cut

We're super excited for the first post below from Marie-Louise of Marie-Louise's Pulse! Be sure to check out her blog on amazing style and fashion finds. ML will be posting here on Lime Seeds a few times a month and we couldn't be happier!

Warmer weather is finally making an appearance; even it is only for a few days at a time. It’s the time of year we love to show a little more skin. There is always something flirty about it but if you are anything like me, you like to keep it subtle.

Cut out dresses are one of this seasons hottest trends and it is precisely for that reason; they are both flirty and subtle. Usually the cut outs are around the waist but sometimes around the collar or the back. There’s just enough skin showing to peak your interest.

Online boutiques like Nastygal and Threadsence have a big selection to choose from. Depending on the style of the dress, this trend works day and night. You can also find this trend at stores like Francesca’s, TopShop, and Tibi so whatever your taste or price range is, there is a cut out dress waiting just for you!

I received this adorable navy knot necklace last week and I was so excited- it was the perfect statement necklace to pair with a crisp white v-neck, tailored blazer and jeans. I love the contrast of the gold and navy, so cute.

A New Year- hurray!

So, here it is- 2012!

New Year's Day is generally quite a lazy day- sleeping in that champagne hangover, "breakfast" at 2pm accompanied with a Mad Men Netflix marathon.

What are you hoping to change this year? Trying to get to yoga at least 3x a week (this guy), not hit the snooze button every morning (me again), or just trying to stay organized (that's what Clementine Lime is for!) throughout the day?

Here's one of our favorite 2012 wall calendars to help you stay on track this year from Blush Face Goods. Remember, it takes 21-30 days of consistent action to create a (good) habit. You can do it!

Ooh-la-la!

We try to stay organized from the inside out. One problem area, though, is our dressers and closets - it’s so easy to let those areas get overwhelmed. Keeping drawers organized is something that takes time and practice - every little bit we can do to get there is great. Oh, and when we mention drawers...we mean undies (yes, we still call them undies, thank you).

1) Go through your inventory
-Toss anything stained, ripped or ill-fitting
-Donate any bras/undies that you never wore or have gently worn
(It’s time to say farewell to that hot little lacy number that you bought with hopeful intentions of fitting into. Sigh.)
It’s hard getting rid of things like this, but there are a number of great organizations like The Bra Recyclers who donate gently-used bras to breast cancer survivors. You can also donate to your local Salvation Army, Goodwill or Savers (Savers here in RI supports Big Sisters of RI with every sale).

CL doesn’t think you should have a limit to the amount of bras and panties you have-- but you should have a varied supply of panties for working out, “sexy time,” every day and sleeping in.
Taking inventory is a great way to see what you may have “too much” of, and what you should keep in mind next time you’re lingerie shopping (who doesn’t have a tendency to always need more undies!).

2) Sort by piece and color
Panties- sort by type ie: bikini, thong, boy-shorts, hiphuggers and your stash of Sexy Period panties for that time-of-the-month.

Bras- sort by color for easy grab and go. We sort from lightest to darkest, since white and nude bras are worn most often, but do what works best for your wardrobe.
-make sure to fold your bras’ cups into each other. This makes them easier to organize and helps reinforce the cup, making them stay longer.

3) Mentionable unmentionables
Hang teddies, babydolls and other pieces on hangers to minimize wrinkling. If you’d like, find a padded hanger to make the piece feel special...and a little sexy!

Store fun scarves in a basket, or hang on a few hooks. Scarves make great decorating accents tied to doorknobs and it’s the perfect piece to grab when you’re heading out the door.
Since here in New England we are in prime, tight wearing weather, go through your stash and toss anything that has rips or holes. You don’t want to put on a pair to later realize a hole in the thigh!

4) Find a storage solution that works for YOU.
It doesn’t need to be fancy. But trust us, keep your panties separated by type for easy dressing every morning - it will help you dress more quickly.

-For top drawer storage, Ikea’s Komplement collection keeps folded undies neat and tidy, butstill viewable. At $20 for the box, it’s a steal.
-If you want to put your beautiful bras on “display,” The Container Store has special bra boxes that are the right fit on a closet shelf. The boxes allow for easy folding and you can grab a box for each color to stay organized-- perfect!
-If you’re tight on storage, you can find clear, stack-able drawers at your local Target to fit your panties, bras and other under-things (socks, tights, seasonal pieces) for about $20-25 each. Perfect size for the dorm room or under a bed!

5) Don’t spend money if you don’t have to
If you don’t want to spend any money (which, we’re big fans of), you can also make your own dividers pretty easily. Try playing with larger-sized gift boxes nestled together, or even the simple cardboard dividers used in 12-packs of beer. This may take some creativity in folding, but it’ll work! Look around your home for unused containers and materials that can serve as clever storage.

Try covering your cardboard holders in pretty gift wrap, kraft paper or contact paper. Not only will it look nicer, but help reinforce the fold and keep it intact. With a little paint or mod-podge love, anything you put together will be cohesive as well as functional.

6) Use what you already have to stay organized
CL loves shopping in our own homes-- look around your house for unused baskets, bins and containers. It’s always fun to re-purpose and give an old basket a new life full of cute panties.

7) Keep it fresh
We like to place a dryer sheet in drawers to keep things smelling great. We love Mrs. Meyer’s Lavender dryer sheets. You can even spritz your favorite perfume in the drawer for a fresh scent.
